Whenever we are faced with a problem, we tend to look for a quick, easy and a permanent solution for it. When it comes of termite attacks many householders generally go straight for the kill, using the most potent poison with the potential threat to harm family health as well as the environment.

The current popular solution is to use strong poisonous chemical pesticides, which in addition to the high cost involved, makes a large extent of ground area sterile.

However, there is indeed an effective solution that is harmless to people and the environment and costs less than a fraction of the poison solution.

I have personally used this in four different residences and has seen it working effectively. This simple solution is based on Khomba or Margosa oil (internationally known as Neem).

All you need to do is put Neem oil in a small plastic spray bottle and dilute 1:10 with water and spray the affected area and the outside ground around it. If there are holes in the wall you can also inject some neem oil with a syringe in to them. This can be repeated any number of times as neem oil is harmless. What is also good about this solution is that Neem oil does not kill the termites but simply stops them eating and multiplying. You will see the results in just a few weeks.

The Neem tree is also known as the magic tree. Neem leaves are used for various ailments and cure for skin conditions. Neem oil is also one of the most effective pesticides and the seed pulp is an effective fertilizer. Diluted neem oil is also effective in getting rid of while powder mite (piti Makuna) from plants. However, you should take care not to spray on flowers or use in excess to repel butterflies and bees visiting your garden.
