Yasantha Boange

 

Yasantha, who was born in Kundasale 13th April, 1945 and had his schooling at Trinity College, had a keen interest in art through what nature had to offer. He learned wood carving under Paul Navaratne and later received training at the Government College of fine arts.

 

He has won several prizes for his work including for his sculpture “Good Shepherd” exhibited at All Ceylon Sculptural exhibition in 1966,  for “Head of Christ” exhibited in Indonesia where he won the Bali prize. His works have been exhibited at several local and foreign exhibitions including the second Asian Art Show Fukuoka 85, Contemporary Asian art show, Seoul 1986, as a  prize winner. Some of his works being displayed include the Rupavahini Corporation, the People’s Bank and the Sapumal Foundation among others.

 

Yasantha, who has carried on with his sculpture work incorporating a spiritual depth, live a simple carefree life, content with his philosophical thoughts, numerous friends and an evolving collection of magazines, books and computer.
